Stella's Title sequence analysis: Lola rennt

Interesting features
This title sequence is a patchwork quilt of different ideas, which are combined to create an interesting and intriguing opening sequence, that presents the films main themes. The title sequence is made up of:

  • A clocks pendulum swinging in to introduce and get rid of the film's titles
  • A POV scene of people walking in public with a narrative which discusses philosophical questions and the meaning of life.
  • This scene introduces the film's name, as a birds eye view shows the people forming the name of the film.
  • A cartoon sequence of the main character running and punching obstacles that display credits on them.

Font
  • The font used in the pendulum sequence has a slightly eroded effect, which creates an eeirie atmosphere.
  • The font used for the cartoon sequence is sans serif, which fits the animated, cartoon style of the sequence.
Transitions/effects
  • For the first set of credits the text is stationary, but the swinging of the pendulum is used to make the text appear and disappear, which creates a sharp, clean-cut effect. The pendulum is gold and is a gargoyle, which swings on a black background, which creates a stark and eeirie atmosphere.
  •  In the cartoon sequence a bloom effect to make the text appear, and the text bounces slightly before being " punched" by the cartoon character, which makes it disappear. This is a unique way of introducing credits and also suggests that the use of animation will be prominent in the film.
